ACT Test Description

The ACT test is a national college admission and placement examination. It is accepted by all four-year colleges and universities in the United States.

It consists of four multiple-choice tests:

English
Mathematics
Reading
Science

There is also an optional Writing Test.

The ACT is offered four to six times a year, depending on the state, in the United States, in September, October, December, February, April and June.

The test is also offered in other countries.

Candidates may choose to take the ACT ($34), or the ACT plus writing ($49.50).

Those with documented physical and learning disabilities can take the test with accommodations.

Check with the schools and programs to which you are applying to find out whether you need to take the ACT test.  If you are applying to community college, you may need to take the COMPASS Test.
